Chapter 1 Look Inside
Chapter 1 Look Inside
“You’re welcome, darling. Now
remember, our host is about to become a marquess.”
Mia frowned. They’d been over the
details a hundred times. Her mother was convinced that of all the properties the heir apparent might have visited, he’d come to Cumberland, where his mother
had hailed from, to choose a bride from the hardiest stock in England.
Mia had no idea where her mother’s
theory had come from, but if it were true, he likely would not consider Mia a perspective bride.
She could see just enough to
maneuver a crowd, broad shapes and splashes of color and light penetrating her damaged eyes. But that was it. And a blind bride was not exactly hardy stock, even if she had lost her sight due to a childhood fever.
The carriage entered the queue of other vehicles waiting to drop the guests within at the main doors.
Mia straightened her shoulders,
clutching her reticule tighter. She’d not precisely told her mother of her plan for the evening. While her mother supported Mia’s art, the matriarch saw Mia’s pastime as the accomplishment that would help her daughter secure an excellent
match, not a vocation for a lady to pursue.
And Mia saw enough of the world to
know that despite her supposed beauty and her artistic talent, she was likely not going to wed. She’d been passed over at nearly every event she’d ever attended and this one would be no different.
It was time to begin testing
alternative paths. Fortunately for her, her mother’s matrimonial plans were likely to fizzle out without any work from Mia. Men would continue to ignore her, and at nearly two and twenty, she’d soon be on the shelf.
But she needed to escape her
father’s house and her only hope there was to be able to sell her work.
The carriage stopped once again,
their footman snapping open the door. Lifting a hand, she carefully adjusted the mask that covered her eyes.
Her mother stepped out first, Mia
second, the footman aware of the secure hand she’d need to make her way down the steps.
She lifted her skirts in the other
hand, attempting to move with as much grace as possible. Then, threading her arm through her mother’s, she joined the crowd.
With the loss of sight, all of
Mia’s other senses had heightened. She heard the rustle of clothing, the fall of footsteps, the low murmur of voices.
They moved along with the others.
“Steps,” her mother faintly whispered.
She gave a near imperceptible nod.
She could make out stairs in the light of the day but not as well at night.
The breeze blew cold air across her
skin, and she lifted her chin to allow her nose to clear of the surrounding
scents. The ballroom would be full of the scent of perfume and body odor. She’d take the fresh smell of cold winter night while she was able.
But as she drew in a deep breath, a
different scent touched her nose. Strong and masculine, sandalwood mixed with pine and an earthy undertone that made her nipples tighten in the strangest
way.
She paused, nearly tripping on the
next step. She hardly had time to straighten when a hand was under her elbow.
Strong, lean fingers wrapped about
the bare skin between the top of her glove and the sleeve of her dress, their firm, warm grip causing her to shiver.
“Careful, my lady.” His voice
rippled over her skin, the deep timber of it making her suck in a deep gulp of air.
“My lord,” her mother gushed.
“Thank you for both your invitation and your aid.”
“You’re welcome. But I must
confess, I don’t have the pleasure of knowing who I converse with.”
“Beg your pardon.” Her mother
dipped into a curtsey. “I am Baroness Blackstone and this is my daughter Miss Amelia Blackstone.”
Welcome to the dark side of Vegas where the stakes are high and the men lethal.
The Smith brothers are taking the underground world of Las Vegas by storm. A continuation of the Lords of Las Vegas world...
King of Depravity
Stalked by a psychotic billionaire…
Waitressing isn’t a calling, it’s a way to pay for my art degree.
Until Killian Smith walks into the bar and turns my world upside down.
It isn’t that he’s drop-dead gorgeous.
Rich.
Powerful.
It’s that he’s unhinged.
I know the dead look in his eyes. I’ve seen it before.
And he sees me too. Every night is some twisted game of cat and mouse and he’s drawing closer to catching me.
Until one night when I step into a back alley and I’m a witness to a Bratva murder.
There is only one man I can turn to for help.
The one man who petrifies me is the only one who can protect me.
Killian Smith.
A beautiful monster.
He’ll keep me safe.
But what will he want in return?
King of Desire
I just agreed to sell my virginity…
I’m a lowly maid for Vegas’s most elusive bachelor, Triston Smith.
Beautiful women line up to his next girlfriend, despite his ironclad rule. He never dates a woman for more than one month.
He’s so gorgeous.
Strong.
Confident.
I’m tempted to join the queue, but I can’t afford that luxury.
I’m the only caregiver for my terminally ill younger brother.
For his sake, I need the kind of guy who’d stick around. Be there for both of us.
When my brother’s chance for a transplant comes up, the surgeon refuses to perform the surgery without a down payment. Ten thousand dollars.
I don’t have a tenth of that amount.
Until a coworker tells me how she makes money on the side. It makes my skin crawl, but it might be my only choice.
The job? Auction my virginity to the highest bidder.
Before I know it, I’m on the auction block trying to control the panic.
That’s when I catch the dark and penetrating gaze of my boss. He stands below me, holding out his hand.
“Did you come to save me?” I gasp.
“No, Honeyeh.” His fingers slide into mine a second before he tips me forward and tosses me over his shoulder. “I bought you.”
King of Malice
I'm the newest employee... of the devil.
My best friend has disappeared.
Growing up in foster care, she’s the only family I’ve got, and the person who saved me on the worst day of my life.
Now, It’s my turn to save her.
The last place she was seen?
A Bratva King’s whorehouse.
Dimitri Ivanov is the stuff of nightmares and completely untouchable.
Until he comes to the temp agency where I work.
He’s also a single dad who needs a nanny.
I beg, borrow, and steal to get the job. I don’t care about the danger.
This is my only chance to find Cadence.
But stepping into his world is like a trial by fire… testing my strength, pushing on all my fears, and awakening my every desire.
But as they lies are exposed, and the danger that stole my best friend threatens to swallow us both, one thing is clear...
Dimitri is the only man who can protect me.
And the last man I should trust.
King of Corruption
Until death do us part.
When my father sells my sister to a cruel Mafia king, I know I need to escape before it’s my turn.
I’ll need money, so I do the only thing I’ve ever been good at: counting cards.
From the start, though, I make a huge mistake.
The Las Vegas casino I choose to steal from?
It belongs to my sister’s fiancé.
I’m hauled into his office, shoved into a chair by his goons as he stands above me, his stare cold enough to freeze my soul.
He’s a man who is above the law, he can do anything he wants.
But he does the worst thing of all…he makes me wait. Imagine. Stew.
He’ll decide how he wants to punish me after the wedding.
I barely pull myself together for the ceremony.
I just have to stand by my sister’s side.
Except, my sister is nowhere to be found.
Instead, a white dress hangs on the back of the rectory door.
Turns out, there’s been a change of plans.
He’s decided on my punishment after all.
And now…
I’m the bride.
King of Damnation
Caught between two brothers—
One is bad, but the other is—pure evil.
My Bratva father has promised me to the devil.
To escape hell, on the morning of my wedding, I stowaway on a private jet.
That was my first mistake.
Because it turns out, the jet belongs to the Duke of Grandmont.
As enigmatic as he is powerful, Win might be the only man I’ve ever met who can make me cower.
But it gets worse.
He is the OLDER brother of my former groom.
And while all of Vegas is looking for me, the runaway bride, Win holds my fate in his very large hands.
Bad right? I’m not done.
Because I didn’t end up here on accident. I wasn’t escaping anything.
In fact, I walked right into Win’s waiting net.
He has a vendetta to settle with my father. And me?
I’m his bait.
But I’ve got a plan all my own, and when MY PAST and HIS DESIRE collide…
All of Vegas might just burn.
King of Chaos
Grumpy billionaire bosses make BAD babysitters…
My new boss, Rush Smith, CEO of the largest real estate company in the world, doesn’t like me.
Divorced single mom, my job hangs by a thread.
He likes kids even less.
And he HATES Vigo Sinclair, his greatest rival, and head of the New York Mafia.
Did I mention that Vigo is my controlling ex-husband?
And I haven’t told my boss any of it.
Not my real identity.
Not about the abuse.
Not the way I ran.
And definitely not how I intentionally chose Rush’s company, because I thought it would be the safest place in the world to hide.
I was right.
Which is why, accidentally calling Rush to babysit might be the worst mistake of my life.
Because my ex is about to find me.
Every truth is about to be exposed.
And the Cold War between Rush and my ex….
It’s about to turn red hot.
